BLESSING – Refreshing word

The Lord has promised good to you; His word your hope secures, as you hear His voice this day to minister into your circumstance. The Lord bless you from Zion; and may you see the peace of Jerusalem all the days of your life. [Psalms 128:5,6] The blessing that is experienced and expressed in your life by a godly growth has been the focus of our meditation. It is the word of God that brings it about, even as you crave for it, as pure spiritual milk, even as a new born baby does, looking only to its mother. [1 Peter 2:2] Sin could have corrupted every aspect of your life, but salvation, the message and the work of the Savior on the Cross, when received and applied in faith in your heart empowers you to overcome it. For when sin increases, His grace super abounds to overwhelmingly conquer. And it is by your longing for the word of God that you grow in your salvation. For, the law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul; the statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. [Psalms 19:7] The word of God being perfect, revives, restores, and refreshes you.

a] Revived -When you were dead in your sins, you were raised to new life in Christ.
b] Restored – to your original intended purpose, the purpose for which God created you.
c] Refreshing – clean slate & a new beginning.

It is the revelation of the word that brings restoration in your world, to bring you back to God’s intended purpose in creating you, that you may be fruitful, multiply, and have dominion in fulfilling God’s plan and purpose for your life. And a past failure, or a civil war that is a breakdown of relationships within a home need not remain permanent. For a new beginning becomes possible, by the blessing of godly growth. It comes by growing in your salvation, to bring clarity, confidence and courage, as you realize the truth that having fallen need not necessarily means that one ought to remain fallen, but can arise and shine in His power.

The divine invite –

Much as the Savior’s invite to the weary and the heavy burdened was, the prophet Isaiah extends God’s invitation that is free to the one who is thirsty that he may approach Him without reproach to receive, be satisfied and restored in one’s soul, without wasting one’s time, energy, and money, on what ultimately does not bring fulfilling satisfaction that only what is from the Lord can provide. [Isaiah 55:1,2] And it involves hearing and learning from God, not in a careless manner, but continually and effectively, for faith comes by hearing the word of God to consent and submit to it, that your soul may be restored. Incline your ears and come to Me Hear and your soul shall live I will make an everlasting covenant with you; The sure mercies of David. [Isaiah 55:3]

Not what you deserve, but, what you need:

Every single one of us has regrets and may be a skeleton in the cupboard!. And death, as a punishment for sin is what you and I deserve, but He has given us what we need, the sure mercies of David. His mercy upon David, implicitly suggests that David, close though his walk with God was, needed it, for he had experienced a massive failure and needed a new beginning, a fresh start. And it is what you and I need too: And by the mercy and grace of God, David’s story ended well , as it is written in the scriptures, for David after he had served his own generation, by the will of God, fell asleep, and was buried with his fathers. [Acts 13:36]

Not suddenly, but a gradual slide:

It may appear to be a sudden downturn, but the effect of sin is invariably a gradual slide from a position of strength and peace to ultimately chaos, confusion and destruction. But David remained at Jerusalem. [2 Samuel 11:1] And the above chapter though it is ostensibly about David settled as the king in Jerusalem, it is also denotes the beginning of the slow slide that would require the sure mercy of God to intervene in his life to give him a new beginning. Sin though, even what brought down David, does not appear suddenly, but is a subtle, and gradual process that follows a pattern. And God is always a step ahead; He never fails to warn you. For the devil is like a roaring lion, prowling around, seeking whom he may devour. And whether it is to do with the aspect of financial health, physical health, relationships, godly discipline, whatever it may be, the devil can lead you astray, it is by hearkening diligently to the word of God, by giving the Shepherd of your soul full control, that you can return to your rest, a restoration of God’s original intended purpose in you.

Not a lecture, but, a helping hand:

A person, who has fallen into a deep pit, may deserve to hear words that rebuke him for his foolhardiness, but what he needs is a helping hand that will lift him up. It illustrates the beautiful truth, the reason behind God’s assurance of his faithful mercy, to David in his time of miserable failure, the underlying root cause of it being sin.

Sin analyzed:

a) Sin is self-deception, for something that is sinful when it is rationalized or justified; reason goes out of the window.
b) Sin feeds on itself. It is why, ‘Do not be anxious about anything’, is the counsel of the word. For being anxious about something, will only make you anxious about more things. You can never satisfy fire by feeding it. But if the Son sets you free, you are free indeed.
c) Sin is the punishment of sin, for as seen in the life of David, it can start with one, but to cover it up it can lead to another, and so it continues. It is why you need the grace of God to come against it. . We are all saints but for the opportunity, it has been rightly observed. And never overestimate the godliness of a person, or underestimate his sinfulness, to place anyone on a pedestal therefore, thinking that they can never sin.

The blessing of God involves purity in you that comes as you go to God humbly, asking Him to show you where you are going wrong. You need God in your life to put a finger on your problem, and His grace to respond rightly when He confronts you in loving compassion. For when Nathan after a powerful buildup that aroused the interest of king David, pointed out to him his offense, David took responsibility, to reap it’s reward. [2 Samuel 12:13] His sin was taken away, and it’s wages of death, in a divine exchange of love, where the sins of the whole world was placed on the sinless Son of God, the penalty paid by Him, that you and I may be declared righteous in Christ. If the Son sets you free, you are free indeed. But it is a freedom that ought not to be abused, for it can take you to a dangerous place. David had the option of not going to war, for as a king, no one could question him. But as it turned out, he had made the wrong decision. We choose our free will to do the will of God is the application of the freedom of Christ in our lives.

Blessed is he whose sins are forgiven:

Having experienced it in his own life, the psalmist is able to set forth the truth of his failure and restoration, his greatest blessing that was him being forgiven, as he went to the Lord in sincere and genuine repentance. [Psalms 32:1,2] And being set free from failure and a painful past, released to a new future, his confident expectation can be yours and mine too – For this cause everyone who is godly may pray to you in a time when you may be found; surely in a time of great waters, they shall not come near you. [Verse 6] Yes, problems may come again; but you will be on higher ground, as you depend on God, for His grace and salvation. In failure, He will give strength and wisdom, pardon for sin, and a peace that endures, bright hope and a new beginning, for great is His faithfulness towards you. His sure mercies, His blessings are yours, for His hand has provided all that you have needed. May your eyes be enlightened to this glorious truth, to see in the coming days of your life, holiness upon holiness, strength upon strength, grace upon grace, that is the blessing of God upon your life. In the Name of Christ Jesus Amen.
