Renewed in the Spirit of Your Mind

You have a God who does impossible things—He is your Healer, who by His word is lifting you, so that you may say, “This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.” (Psalm 118:23) May you hear His voice speaking into your heart, specifically into your situation, as we meditate upon the favor of God on your life—a favor that transforms. As written in Scripture, Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord, and by faith and reverent obedience, he became responsible to build an ark for the salvation of his family. (Hebrews 11:7)

Building Your Life

Translated into your own life, this calls you to build your life upon the Rock of Christ, shaped by Scripture—the incorruptible Word of God. Your life is transformed as you are renewed in the spirit of your mind, to stand strong through the storms of life. This happens as you draw near to Him and learn from Him—an invitation that still stands for you and me today. To all who are weary and burdened, Jesus says: “Come to Me… take My yoke… and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:28–30)

In Christ, Through Christ, For Christ

The principle remains: to live in Christ, through Christ, and for Christ. This works out practically as you put off the old and put on the new—since you heard of Christ and were taught in Him, in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus: “To put off your old self… and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds… and to put on the new self.” (Ephesians 4:21–24) You hear from the Lord Jesus, just as Mary did while sitting at His feet and listening. You hear from Him through His Word and learn from Him, finding rest for your soul as you put it all into practice.

Put Off the Old, Put On the New

In simple terms, this is like changing your garment—but it’s more than a surface change. It’s something you need to do. The old man, descended from fallen Adam, is corrupted by sin and beyond repair. Your old sinful nature must be replaced as you are renewed in the spirit of your mind. This renewal begins in your inner being, in your mind.

The internal is eternal

The external is temporary. Being a Christian outwardly while remaining an unbeliever inwardly, yet expecting the blessings of a child of God, does not hold. You must be made new on the inside.

The Inner Transformation

It is only then that you can receive His joy, His peace, and His rest—deep in your soul. This change must occur in your heart and mind, so that you may prosper even as your soul prospers. Jesus taught the crowds who came to Him to put off the old and put on a new way of living. It’s not just about replacing old thoughts with new ones—it’s about a new way of thinking. A shift in the source of your thoughts. It’s the same brain, but with a new mindset—the mind of Christ becomes your new way of living.

Changing the Setting

If you turn on the air conditioner but the room remains warm, you don’t replace the unit—you change the setting on the remote. Only then will the room cool down. Likewise, spiritual change requires a shift in setting—not just outward attendance at church week after week. True change happens deep within you, from old to new. Your inner man must be continually set to the right mode, taught by the Lord through His Word, to put off the old and put on the new.

From Carnal to Spiritual

We are born with a carnal setting, inherited from Adam. Even a child need not be taught to do wrong—it comes naturally. But in Christ, this need not be so. The carnal man is led by instinct and impulse. The spiritual man, created in God’s image and saved through Christ’s sacrifice, is led by the Spirit. To the carnal mind, spiritual things seem foolish. The carnal man won’t understand why you spend time in church or find joy in God’s presence. It is possible only as your mind is tuned by the Word of God.

Jesus is the Way

Jesus said, “I am the Way.” He is the only solution. Godly blessings come only in godly ways. All other paths that seem right to man lead to death. The Word of God and the Spirit of God are the vital resources you need for your thinking to be transformed—at the root, at its source.

Conviction in Times of Difficulty

Even when times are hard, God’s Word will speak specifically to you. Your situation may remain unchanged for a while—but continue to meditate on His Word, continue to listen to His voice. He has made all things beautiful in His time. He is faithful—He will speak and bring it to pass. Those who seek the Lord will lack no good thing. You will come to the point where you are renewed in the spirit of your mind, and your conviction will be: “I will see the goodness of God in the land of the living.”

Living by the Word of God

Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4) He quoted this to the devil to overcome him—demonstrating the power of God’s Word. Just as your body needs food, your mind needs the daily nourishment of Scripture. Listening and meditating on the Word is like saving money in a bank—you can draw from it when needed to overcome life’s challenges. The righteous do not fear bad news—they bear fruit even in drought. Why? Because their mind is connected to a different source: the Word of God—a live stream of the Spirit.

Look at Me—In the Name of Jesus, Walk

At the Beautiful Gate, the crippled man looked to Peter expecting money. But Peter said: “Look at me… In the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk!” (Acts 3:3–6) He received something money couldn’t give. This illustrates what needs to happen in your heart and mind.

Scripture—Your First Response

For every problem, there is a promise in God’s Word. The Holy Spirit will remind you of it, so that out of the fullness of your heart, your mouth will speak it in times of need. As you feed on His Word, your old thoughts are displaced, replaced by new thoughts—rooted in God’s truth. And you will know: He will do it.

A New Way of Living

Then your heart will cry out in thankfulness: “This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in my eyes.” He begins in your heart and mind, changing you—making you stand in awe. All you need to do is humbly surrender, allowing Him to have His way in you.

Closing Prayer

Father, we thank You for Your Word. Have Your way in our hearts and minds, that by Your Spirit, we may put off the old and put on the new. Let Your wonderful work of grace begin in us, that we may no longer remain the same, but be changed to live for Your glory. In the Name of Christ Jesus Amen.
