Resting in Christ

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, praise His holy Name. This will be the song of your heart, for you will see in the coming days that God will make a way in your life’s circumstances. You will declare, This is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes. He will be your guide, and He will do something new in your life—even this day. May you hear the Lord’s voice speaking specifically to you through His Word, as we meditate on the eyes of God upon your life, granting you favor, just as He did with Noah. As the Scriptures declare: But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. Genesis 6–8. As a result, Noah, by faith, became reverent and responsible toward the salvation of his family. In obedience, he built an ark according to the instruction of the Lord. By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family — Hebrews 11:7. In your life today, this translates to building your life on the foundation of Scripture as the wise man did, who built his house upon the rock. When the storms and challenges of life come, they will not drown you. Instead, you will stand firm.

In Christ, Through Christ, For Christ:

These are the principles of Christian living. As a new creation in Christ, the old has gone, and the new has come — 2 Corinthians 5:17. In Christ, you have a new beginning: A new life, A new way of living. He becomes your life, so that you may live through Him and with Him. And the Contrast of the Old Life Paul explains this in his letter to the Ephesians: Your former way of life included:
a) Futility of mind
b) Darkened understanding
c) Hardness of heart
d) Willful ignorance
e) Being given over to the desires of the flesh — Ephesians 4:17–19

But now: You, however, did not come to know Christ that way. Surely you heard of Him and were taught in Him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus — Ephesians 4:20–21. Christian living means coming to Him and being taught by Him.

Come to Me and Rest:

Everyone carries burdens—in modern terms, stress. But the Lord gives an unconditional invitation: Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest — Matthew 11:28. When you accept this invitation, you will no longer need to carry your burdens alone. He will show you what to do: Call to Me and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things you do not know — Jeremiah 33:3. You must come to His Word, that He may show you how to handle your situation. This is the response that brings blessing.

Come to the House of God

Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us His ways, so that we may walk in His paths — Isaiah 2:3. Coming to the house of God — the local church is ordained by God. From the Day of Pentecost, the church has been central: Praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved — Acts 2:47. If you are saved, you are called to be part of a local church — one God leads you to. The writer of Hebrews gives a clear warning: Do not neglect meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching — Hebrews 10:25.

God’s covenant promise remains:

My Spirit who is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your children, nor from your children’s children,” says the Lord — Isaiah 59:21. He will teach you His Word in His house. Your response is to walk in it.

How the Lord Gives You Rest:

Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light — Matthew 11:29–30. When you learn from Him, by taking His yoke, you will receive rest in your soul. Just as the yoke on oxen makes their load bearable, His yoke makes your burden light—because you learn from Him.

Mary Sat at His Feet:

As Jesus and His disciples were on their way, He came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to Him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what He said — Luke 10:38–39. Mary sat rested at His feet to listen and learn. You don’t need to do painful penance to be near Him. You need to be still and focused—this is how you learn from Him. “Be still, and know that I am God — Psalm 46:10 You are not God. But He is, and as you listen and learn, rest will enter your soul. Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord — Matthew 4:4. Even when others speak against you, God is a shield around you. Listen to what He says. This is the only way to find true rest.

He is the Way — Come and Rest:

The Prince of Peace gives you His peace. The God of peace and the peace of God are inseparable – He is your peace. He says: “Come to Me, and I will give you rest.” When you listen and learn from Him, His blessings will come to you – in godly ways. Then you will declare: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me — Philippians 4:13. So Come to the Throne of Grace. Come, sit, and listen to what He says. Let distress and weariness leave. Find rest in Christ alone. Be still. Let go of all striving. Know that He is God, He can deal with it all.

Prayer: A Heart at Rest

Father, We thank You for Your presence and for Your Word. We thank You that whatever our situation, it is no longer I, but You, O Lord, who lives in me. Lord, my focus is on You. You make my face radiant and will never let me be put to shame. Grant me the grace to learn from You, That I may find true rest in You, and live. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
