The situation may be uncertain and worrisome. But, you are not alone, and will never be alone in your life. On the other hand, you are very special; and all because the Lord God is with you. You have been called, chosen by God that His adequacy and His power may be demonstrated in and through you, as His anointing rests upon you, to lead you in the righteous path of doing His will, here on earth.
The psalmist’s prayer therefore is, Teach me to do your will, my God; May your good spirit lead me on level ground. [Psalm 143:10] And, it also continues to be the ongoing theme of our meditation, in order to listen to the teaching of God, that we may be led and guided by Him. For as the prophet has said, in God’s word, He instructs him in right judgments, His God teaches him. [Isaiah 28:26]
Being purposeful:
There is no need to panic therefore, even in a troubling situation such as this, but instead there arises the necessity to be purposeful, as you focus upon the God who has called you. And, God sometimes uses problems, to turn your attention towards Him, that you may become aware of any hurtful way in you, in order to be led in the everlasting way. Life often throws the odd challenge or two, in every person’s path, and sometimes it could be of unprecedented magnitude, but as a child of God, He is always there with you to help you. And God knows your every weakness, but He never deviates from His call upon your life. The God who has called you is faithful. He will deal with it all by His amazing grace and strength, that sees you walking in your calling, finding your sufficiency and adequacy in Him.
Learning from the life of Moses:
It is why studying the life of Moses, and his transformation by the gracious presence of God to be the great leader that he was called to be, is of great value and encouragement. For, the path of Moses initially, had many hiccups that left him with a low self esteem, full of doubts and fears regarding his own adequacy, when it came to standing before the pharaoh, the then most powerful man in the world, to speak words that he very well knew would not be palatable to his ears. He had numerous excuses to offer to the God, who already knew it all! [Exodus chapter 3&4]
And you and I, with our own low points, and negative experiences in life, can well understand how truly difficult it must have been for Moses, to accept and surrender to the call of God upon his life. But the great and awesome God, who is also love, drew him out of his self focus, to be upon Himself, for He is the God who even in your life, not only calls you, but also equips you, by His anointing, that ultimately He may be glorified in your life. ‘Go, and I will be with you..’ ‘I am slow of speech, Lord’, were the words of Moses, concerning what he felt was his inability in accomplishing what he was called to do. [Exodus 4:11] But God acknowledged it in the very best way in saying, that He Himself would be with him, to help him, by being his voice, giving him the words to speak, ‘Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth, and teach you what you shall say’. [Exodus 4:12]
And He is the same unchanging, always present, always helpful God even this day, to be your adequacy and power in your calling, in your circumstance, however problematic it may be. You are never alone in what ever you are going through right now. Therefore, how you are going to manage your problem, need not be your position or outlook, concerning it. Rather, it is all about the presence of God. He is with you, to help you deal with it. However long it takes, or whatever it takes, He is there with you in your problem. And He is for you, even as the Angel of the Lord, answered Joshua’s query concerning it, to say, ‘As Commander of the Army of the Lord, I have now come’, in the tough battle that lay ahead of them in the promised Land. [Joshua 5:14]
In short:
1. God is for you,
2. God is with you, and as child of God in the new covenant,
3. God is in you.
And, who is the God, who is for you ?
He is the God of foreknowledge, who does nothing as an afterthought. He knew you before you knew yourself, while you were yet in your mother’s womb, as prophet Jeremiah declares. And in His foreknowledge, He has predestined you, to plan and prepare all that you will ever need in your life. This is the God who has called you, to be justified or made righteous by Him, and to move on to being glorified by Him. And therefore, who can bring a charge against God’s elect, is the confident stance of Paul. [Romans 8:31] It is also one that you can stand upon with boldness, when you are a child of God. And if such a God is for you, who cares if anyone or anything is against you, can be your even more stronger statement of faith ! For, you are already on the winning side! And together with it, all because you love Him, and have been called according to His purpose, this blessed assurance is yours, from God.
Working together for your good:
And God causes all things to work together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. [Romans 8:28] It is the wonderful promise of God that comes to you in a time of challenge and pain, even in the midst of a world wide calamity such as what is happening now, with the virus threat, when the common man is engulfed with fear and anxiety, not knowing what is going to happen tomorrow!
And, how can you have this assurance?
It is because, God in His foreknowledge and forethought, has made all provision for you, even before you knew that a particular need is going to arise in your life. The threat of a contaminating virus is neither a surprise or a threat to Him. He is your Jehovah Jireh, your Provider, who promised to take care of it all on Mount Moriah, and has indeed fulfilled His promise on Calvary.
God has already done it all, on the Cross of Calvary, where He did not spare His Only Begotten Son, but gave Him up for us all. And it speaks as nothing else can, to give in you faith and hope concerning all the other good things that you can with certainty hope for, as the apostle Paul goes on to say , He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him, freely give us all things? [Romans 8:32] Such is the God who is for you. And therefore, even when what is evil and destructive comes against you, God can, and He will turn it around for your good, that you may be blessed to be a blessing to the world around you, for the saving of many lives. And all because He loves you. [Deuteronomy 23:5]
The love of God:
He is the God who loves you with an everlasting love. Even His discipline, that involves His teaching and training, and what could be something that may seem painful at present, is all out of His love for you, desiring a change in you, a removal of any hurtful way in you, that you may be led in the everlasting way, to reap a quiet harvest of righteousness. And, He is there for you. It is the liberating truth that can cause you to surrender to Him, stay yielded in His Hand, instead of holding on to negative inhibitions, that prevent you from moving forward. He is the God who freely gives to you, together with Christ, all that you need in your life. And Christ is seated even now at the right hand of God interceding for you, on your behalf. Therefore, what can stand against you? The problem may be seemingly against you, but the promise of God is for you. And every promise of God in His word, is ‘yes’ and ‘Amen in Christ Jesus.
God is in you:
God is with you always, and in the fullness of the victorious Cross, that you live now, when you accept Christ as Lord of your life, to become a child of God, you are a partaker of the New covenant, by which God is in you. For, the Holy Spirit comes to abide in you, making your body a temple of the Holy Spirit. You are not your own, for you have been bought with a price, the precious Blood of Christ shed for you on Calvary, for the remission of your sins and mine and the sins of the whole world. Therefore, glorify God in your body, is the counsel of the written word of God, in the words of the apostle Paul, to the Corinthian church. [1 Corinthians :19,20]
And a glorious dimension of it would be the truth that flows out of it, that God is well able to take care of your body, since it is His. It is the spiritual perspective concerning caring for your body. Your body, that you can be fascinated with, in your youth, only to be frustrated with it, as the years progress, when it does not function as efficiently, as you want it to, till you slowly start getting fearful of it in your golden years, not knowing when it is going to begin to shut down, and the silver cord is broken! [Ecclesiastes 12:6]
He who is in you is greater..:
And of course, shifting responsibility on to Him, does not in any way imply that you can use your body carelessly, or neglect your care of it. But the vital and glorious truth is that, your body is the temple of God, the blessed Holy Spirit. And therefore, He who is in you, is greater than he that is in the world. [1 John 4:4] He is greater than anything that can come against you, be it a debilitating illness, a person, or a philosophy. Moses after his enlightening conversation with God, was able to stand confidently before pharaoh, an earthly king, knowing that the King of kings, the Great I AM, was with him to help him succeed in his mission that would eventually lead to God’s people being delivered out of a cruel bondage that had lasted four hundred and thirty years. It was then a transformed Moses, with eyes opened and enlightened, who was able to give thanks to God, as he neared the end of his earthly journey, for making His people, everyone of them, including himself special, by His presence with them. And may the eyes of your heart too be opened to know and experience the life transforming truth even today.
Special – for the Lord was with them:
As Moses prayed for a visible sign of God’s grace and favor to be upon His people, God answered to say, ‘My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest’. [Exodus 33: 14] It was the assurance of His continual presence with them, that came to Moses from God, in reply to his prayer, revealing to him very clearly, that it was how they were distinguished as a special people of God. And Moses received and acknowledged it, with a willing and thankful heart to say, ‘If Thy presence does not go with us, do not lead us up from here; For how then can it be known, that I have found favor in Thy sight, I and Your people? Is it not by Thy going with us, that we, I and Thy people, may be distinguished from all the other people upon the face of the earth?’ [Exodus 33: 15,16] [NASB]
You and I are also His chosen people today, for we have put our trust in Christ, and are descendants of Abraham by faith. And thus as the verse above lays it down step by step, the Lord God being with you is,
a. A sign of His favor upon you;
b. It is His blessing upon you;
c. It distinguishes you, and makes you special.
And it can reflect in your daily life, especially in these troubled times when even a term like ‘lock down’ has become so up close and personal.
Therefore, do not worry ..:
It is when the words of the Savior to you and I, hit home. For, He has declared, and even commanded you not to worry or be anxious about tomorrow, when you are in a living relationship, with the True Living God as your Heavenly Father, to be special, and of great value in His eyes. [Matthew 6:25-34] For, giving in to worry, as you concentrate on what is negative, can pull you down, and will lead to fear in you that can become a stronghold. It is why you need to cast all your care on the Lord, who cares for you.
For, your Father will take care of it all:
‘Your Father knows’, are the words of the Savior, stressing very clearly the personal connection that needs to be there between you and God, as your Heavenly Father. It is the foundation on which everything else falls in place. For, to your Father, you are more significant and valuable than the birds of the air that He feeds, and the grass of the field that He clothes, and does it all in kingly splendour. [Matthew 6: 26,30]
Your responsibility:
And the Lord pinpoints precisely what can give room to worry in you, as He says, ‘O ye. Of little faith’. It is also never to condemn you or pull you down, for He is the Lord who does not quench a dimly burning wick, but rather, by pointing you to your Father, only shows where your focus needs to be. And it is also where your responsibility lies, so that you may see all that you need added to your life. [Matthew 6:33]
A shifting of focus:
It was what the Lord was gently accomplishing in the hearts of the listening multitude, as He taught them – A shifting of focus to be upon the Lord, your Healer, the God who blesses your food and water, to remove all sickness from you, the God who can meet your every need. It was what brought about the transformation in Moses, to move from a place of lack of self worth, to the wondrous realization of how special he and the people of Israel were- and all because God was with them, all the way, and always.
You are never alone:
And His promise still stands, to enlighten, comfort, and empower you, as you fix your eyes upon Lord Jesus, who has all authority in heaven and on earth given to Him, and has said that He will be with you , till the end of the age, and always. [Matthew 28:20] And His Spirit abides in you. You are special; and you are never alone. The One who has overcome it all, lives in you, guaranteeing that you will indeed overwhelmingly conquer all that is against you now. And, even if the whole world is against you, He is for you. Therefore, one day you will look back at your life with thanksgiving, to give glory and honor to the God who is and was with you, and in you, now and always.
You need not fear:
You can therefore, confidently say that you will not fear, for the Lord God who has said that He will never leave you or forsake you, is your Helper. [Hebrews 13:5,6] He is your Good Shepherd; and therefore, as He leads you in His paths of righteousness, goodness and mercy will follow you all the days of your life. [Psalm 23:3,6] And with thanksgiving, as you surrender yourself into the hands of your Heavenly Father, may grace take you from where you are, to God’s appointed place for you, to fulfill your calling, so that His Name may be glorified in and through you.
In the Name of Christ Jesus Amen.
