It is the Power of God and the Wisdom of God “For the message of the Cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” [1 Corinthians 1:18] It is the power to accomplish the power of God unto salvation and the wisdom to appropriate it in your life. Though the world may advocate many paths to salvation, the Bible makes it very clear: He is the Way. It is the power of God that made it possible for you to receive it, even when you were weak and helpless, for you were unable to do anything to achieve it.
Man Cannot Save Himself:
This is what Paul writes of himself in his letter to the Romans, that he was unable to do what his mind wanted him to do. He described himself as a wretched, miserable man in need of rescue from his body of death. Yet, he then proclaims the truth of victory through Jesus Christ, our Lord. [Romans 7:21–25]
The Law is Not Sufficient:
The law is good, but the unrighteousness in us keeps us from obeying it. It becomes a stumbling block to receiving the blessings of God through it. The law and the sacrifices it required were a shadow of the reality, which is the Cross.
The Devil is No Push-Over:
In your own strength, you are no match for him—the thief and destroyer who is at work wherever there is killing, enmity, or violence. But the God of peace Himself will soon crush Satan under your feet. That is God’s promise. Therefore, get your feet ready.
Death – The Final and Ultimate Problem:
This is why we need the power of God unto salvation. Death entered when sin entered the world in the Garden of Eden. God dealt with it through the death of His Son, Jesus Christ, on the Cross. Since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death that is, the devil and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. [Hebrews 2:14–15] This is what Christ did on the Cross. “The sting of death is sin.” [1 Corinthians 15:55] But death could not hold Him down, for sin was atoned for. He overcame death and rose again. The author of sin, the devil was also the author of its consequences. He had a legal hold on man when man sinned, making man his lawful captive and subject to death. But when Christ died and rose again, He took away the authority of the devil. Now we are under the mercy of God. It is God who has the final say. Christ, who is now alive forevermore, holds the keys of death and Hades, and He will one day come to take us to be with Him forever. “To live is Christ, and to die is gain.” [Philippians 1:21] We are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus over anything that comes against us. “Nothing can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus.” Even death only serves to bring us closer to God. The only name that makes this possible is the name of Jesus Christ.
Wisdom of God to Appropriate:
“To those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ [is] the power of God and the wisdom of God.” [1 Corinthians 1:24] This wisdom comes by revelation in your spirit, for the Lord has chosen to reveal Himself to you, all by His grace, even when you were dead in your trespasses. You were chosen even before you were formed in your mother’s womb.
Come to Me…
“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” [Matthew 11:28–30] This is His open invitation to you today in your weakness, your frustration, and everything that is troubling you. Come to Him. Be yoked to Him. And by His wisdom, appropriate all that He has accomplished on the Cross, and find rest for your soul. The Savior who took away all your pain and sorrow on the Cross who carried it all away now invites you to draw near to Him, and to know and experience all that He has already accomplished for you.
Rest for Your Soul:
As you offer your life to Hi, may it be all for Him and for His glory let this be your prayer: Father, We thank Thee for the gift of Your Son, who died, rose again, and is coming back for us, so that nothing may separate us from Your love. We thank Thee for the work of Christ on the Cross for destroying death, overcoming the evil one that we may experience rest in our souls, to arise and live for Thy glory. In the Name of Christ Jesus Amen.
